Anuja is a professional philanthropic investor working with funders and social entrepreneurs in education and healthcare. Her focus for the last twenty years has been on increasing the scale and impact of social enterprises through a combination of private sector-style funding, policy & advocacy support, and developing an ecosystem of entrepreneurs.
Since moving to India in 2005, Anuja has worked with social enterprises and large private philanthropies, including those of Dr. Desh Bandhu Gupta, Ramalingu Raju, and the SKS Foundation. Currently, she leads the education practice at Villgro, a leading incubator and investor in earlystage social enterprises.
Prior, Anuja was Managing Director of the Fisher Fund, with overall responsibility for one of the largest education foundations in the United States. The Fund’s philanthropic investments include many of the most respected brands in education reform, including Teach For America and KIPP.
Anuja began her career as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch and went on to gain valuable start-up experience at MovieFone, a media company, as it went public and was sold to AOL.
Anuja has a BA from the University of Chicago and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. She serves on the board of Kodaikanal International School and the India alumni board of the University of Chicago. Anuja makes her home in Bangalore with her husband and two young sons.
