Mr. Nand Kumar is an IAS officer and currently the Principal Secretary, holding charge of School Education and Sports department in Maharashtra. He is also the State Project Director for the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. He is currently spearheading the Pragat Shaikshanik Maharashtra Programme, which aims to bring quality education at the top in the country and also to bring down the dropout rates of girls in school. He has been instrumental in 19000 elementary schools being declared as pragat (100% children learning at grade appropriate level) and 25000 Schools becoming digital.
He has been in the field of education on and off throughout his career of 27 years. He was the Secretary of the School Education department of Chhattisgarh for 3 years and parallely also the Director, SCERT as well as Director - Adult Education. He has worked with UNICEF, where he handled a Primary Education Enhancement Programme for two districts in Maharashtra. He also held charge of state Project Director, SSA for one year in Maharashtra in year 2010-11.
He has done his B.Ed as well as MBA in Human Resource Development. He has been studying the Education system worldwide through study tours to Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA, and Singapore with a view to uplift the quality of education in Maharashtra to international level.
